The Graphic/User-Interface Designer position is responsible for building graphical user-interface designs for social games. Additional responsibilities include taking social gaming concepts and ideas and giving them visual form. Not only does the Graphic/UI Designer need to be an exceptional graphic designer, they need to be able to contribute to the game design process as both an expert in visualization best practices and as a source of inspired ideas. The Graphic/UI Designer needs to have a can-do attitude and be an outstanding problem solver when confronted with unique and challenging design concept problems. This position is ideal for the star player in a larger and less nimble organization to define the canvas “as it was meant to be” and of course; share in a bigger piece of the success that comes through significant ownership in the business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create graphical user-interfaces for flash-based social games including HUD elements, icons, banners, and logos.
- Assist with designing game elements including avatars, characters, landscapes, buildings, in-game goods, etc
- Conceptualization and implementation of graphical art across multiple projects
- Create concept UI flowcharts, storyboards, and mockups of new games and features.
- Work closely with developers and engineers to build a product from inception to launch
- Be a vocal participant in the game conceptualization process with specific guidance on game dynamics and graphic functionality
- Provide support for out of game experiences such as product websites and advertising materials
REQUIREMENTS
- 3-5+ years of professional experience as a computer graphic artist and UI designer
- 2D, 3D, traditional graphic design, and conceptual art production skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of user-interface design & flow, traditional graphic design layout and animated interface elements
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with an emphasis on Photoshop & Illustrator, Flashor equivalents
- Ability to create in a variety of styles – must be able to design from cutesy cartoon style to realistic violent images
- A passion for games and social networking
- Excitement about working in a fast-paced cutting edge startup environment
- Work experience at a game production company
- Quick sketching and storyboarding experience
- Portfolio showing your best work with an emphasis on gaming examples and/or user-interface designs
